GETS YOUR PROJECT
BACK ON TRACK

Projects go off the rails for three reasons:

Culture
Culture0
Strategy
Strategy0
Methods
Methodology0

“People say they understand what project and change management mean...but these terms need to be defined every time”

CULTURAL CHALLENGES

Culture embodies the essence of any firm. It is made up of all sorts of tangibles like behaviours and routines and intangibles things like stories and myths. Legendary business leader, Peter Drucker once said, “culture eats strategy for breakfast” underscoring how critical understanding and leveraging your culture is as a driver to achieving competitive advantage in your market. If your culture is not aligned with your methods and your strategy, you’re going to have a problem with your projects.

PROJECT METHODS

There are many different methods used in firms to carry out project work. Issues arise on projects when the method fails to organize the work, provide a means to measure how the work is being carried out and ensuring the right milestones and timelines are in place. Methods include hard deliverables like the timeline, schedule and task list but also less tangibles like stakeholder communication and engagement plans. Often these are left hanging because the right type of metric is not developed to measure whether or not the desired outcome is achieve. If your method is not aligned with culture and strategy, you’re going to have a problem with your projects.

“Identifying milestones is often missing from projects”

“Often on projects there are no established metrics to measure process against”

“Scalable responses are required”

“Teams need to have the skills to carry the project work forward”

“High-performing teams is what is needed to move projects forward”

“No time to do the work”

STRATEGY MISALIGNMENT

What problem is your firm trying to solve? The answer to this question forms the basis for your strategy and the projects your firm ought to be working on to solve the problem. Projects that do not contribute to your strategic goals reduce your ability to maintain or improve your competitive advantage in your market. Being clear on your strategy and aligning culture and methods will improve your standing in the market. If your strategy is not aligned with culture and methods, you’re going to have a problem with your projects.

Our Method

Project Rescuers’ diagnostic tool grounded in change management principles identifies the root cause of project derailment using our signature four step process:

Diagnose, Intervene, Prototype, and Execute.

We then work with teams to get projects back on track.

DIAGNOSE

Diagnose

We administer an efficient diagnostic tool with the team to pinpoint where the source of the project derailment is coming from: Culture, Methodology or Strategy. We work with the team in their space or online with teams distributed globally.

Prototype

A trial of the new approach is launched to ensure alignment between culture, methodology and strategy. We determine in this step what is working and what needs to be refined in the new approach. Bugs are worked out and the new approach is ready for enterprise- wide implementation.

Intervention

Once the diagnostic is complete, we develop a plan using the data to move the team from how they are currently functioning to their ideal future state. Change management tools and principles are deployed to ensure a systematic and sustainable change.

Execute

Enterprise wide implementation is launched in this step. The redesigned methods for project management is aligned with culture, methodology and strategy and the team is prepared and ready to embrace the new way forward. Three month and six month assessments are undertaken to work out any unexpected issues and instill the principle of continuous improvement within the organizational culture.
